DENVER (KDVR) — How do you get your kid back into the routine of waking up early, doing homework and being on time? Routines are so important for kids, and the transition can be hard for children of all ages.FOX31 spoke to an expert at the Graduate School of Professional Psychology at the University of Denver, Dr. Kim Gorgens, about how you can make that transition as easy as possible. She said the main thing is sleep, and kids need a lot more sleep than you think. Younger kids need 11 to 13 hours a night, and teenagers should be getting about 9 hours. So, parents have to weigh what bedtime makes sense for doing homework, having dinner, getting enough sleep, and then waking up to get to school on time. Colorado parents paying more for back-to-school supplies this year Gorgens said giving your kids control over part of their routine can help create a more seamless transition.“So for kids, it's not so much implementing a routine for them but embedding their choices in that routine a...

US inflation rises for the first time in a year

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 08:28:48 GMT

WASHINGTON — Inflation in the United States edged up in July after 12 straight months of declines. But excluding volatile food and energy costs, so-called core inflation matched the smallest monthly rise in nearly two years, a sign that the Federal Reserve’s interest rate hikes continue to slow price increases. The inflation figure the government reported Thursday showed that overall consumer prices increased 3.2% from a year earlier. That was up from a 3% annual rise in June, which was the lowest rate in more than two years. The latest figure remained far below last year’s peak of 9.1%, though still above the Federal Reserve’s 2% inflation target. The Fed, economists and investors, though, pay particular attention to core inflation figures for signs of where inflationary pressures might be headed. From June to July, core inflation remained a tame 0.2%.“Core prices are moving in the right direction,” said Rubeela Farooqi, chief U.S. economist for High Fre...

A Malta-flagged ship rescued them, and an Italian Coast Guard vessel took them to Lampedusa island. The survivors said 41 fel...
