NEW YORK (AP) — Nearly 200 years after Ludwig van Beethoven's death, researchers pulled DNA from strands of his hair, searching for clues about the health problems and hearing loss that plagued him. They weren't able to crack the case of the German composer's deafness or severe stomach ailments. But they did find a genetic risk for liver disease, plus a liver-damaging hepatitis B infection in the last months of his life. These factors, along with his chronic drinking, were probably enough to cause the liver failure that is widely believed to have killed him, according to a study published Wednesday in the journal Current Biology. This photo provided by researchers in March 2023, shows the Stumpff Lock, from composer Ludwig van Beethoven, in a laboratory at the Max Planck Institute for the Science of Human History in Germany. Although it was hard to watch so many restaurateurs suffer during the pandemic, there are definitely some silver linings.Cook St. Paul’s transformation into Juche, a dark, stylish Korean restaurant, is one of those.Owners Chris Her and Eve and Eddie Wu did a lot of soul-searching during the shutdowns, meditating on exactly what they wanted in a restaurant, and Juche is the result.I recently brought some friends to check out the new menu, which is a mix of Korean-influenced American food and traditional Korean dishes. The Payne Avenue space that housed Cook St. Paul, and before that Serlin’s, has always been small, but now it is intimate and inviting. The walls are painted black, there are three tall black booths that seat six people each, a few tables and a small bar.Sujeonggwa, a makgeolli-based cocktail, at Juche in St. Paul. My in-laws, the kids grandparents, agreed to watch our kids for one night so that we could have a nice evening alone. We have two kids under the age of four, so we just wanted a night of quiet, and my husband's parents graciously agreed to watch them starting at noon, staying at our house all night, so we could go to a hotel, and then we would relieve them in the morning. It was a wonderful gesture. Until we came home and found out that they had gotten our son's hair cut without our permission. My four year old son had beautiful long hair, down about two inches past his shoulders. He loved it, and we loved it. Well, while they were babysitting, my husband's parents took our son and ha...RCPD: Man pulled over had three arrest warrants

Dear Amy: I was raised by a single mother. She’s an educated, liberal feminist who brought me up to be a strong and self-sufficient woman. She is loving, open-minded and non-confrontational. We are very close, even though she lives in another state.Every year she comes to stay at my house for a week or two and the two of us travel to visit other relatives. I always thoroughly enjoy our time together. My husband was raised in a very patriarchal house by blue-collar workers who never denied him anything. He’s brilliant and extremely successful, even though he never finished college (but he is insecure about how smart he is). He’s a man’s man, physically strong, can fix anything, build anything, do anything he sets his mind to, takes excellent care of our grown children, and adores me.My problem is that my husband and mother don’t like each other. They don’t argue, but they definitely struggle to be in the same room.Once my husband and I were debating about so...'Weakened' Macron sticks with pension bill, eyes new reforms

In 2007, the Volkswagen Factory was launched in Kaluga in SKD format and two years later, it started full-cycle production. Its capacity is 225 thousand cars per year. But after the start of the war in Ukraine, the work of the factory was suspended, and then Volkswagen Group considered selling the factory in Kaluga. As reported by “Izvestiya”, the main contender for the purchase of the Kaluga factory was Avilon car dealer holding which was Volkswagen’s own dealership, and after the withdrawal from the Russian market, this fact was a distinct competitive advantage.Avilon is a large Russian dealer of luxury cars with a revenue of 86,9 billion rubles. And it’s the dealer that can sell and serve cars but not produce them.
