WASHINGTON - The next presidential election is less than a year away. Some Republican presidential candidates will face off Wednesday evening in Miami in the third primary debate of the 2024 election cycle. The group debating Wednesday does not include former U.S. President Donald Trump, who formally announced last year he would run for office again in 2024. Some elected officials, including Missouri U.S. Sen. Josh Hawley, believe Trump is the frontrunner to become the GOP presidential nominee. Iced tea DNA unmasks alleged ‘thirsty burglar’ in O’Fallon "Donald Trump is going to be the nominee; I've been saying this for a long time," said Hawley during a virtual chat with FOX 2 on Wednesday. "I'm not sure these debates are particularly productive. I think at this point, we would do well to rally behind Trump as the nominee. I think he is going to be the nominee. I've said that over and over, and I think voters have made up their minds." The comments come following some big Dem...Thousands of sturgeon are closer to Illinois lake release

TOPEKA, Ill. -- Researchers and biologists recently tagged 4,600 young lake sturgeon at the Jake Wolf Memorial Fish Hatchery in Mason County as part of Illinois' Lake Sturgeon Recovery Project. Conservationists are trying to bring the ancient native species back to Midwestern lakes and rivers. This tagging initiative is a crucial step towards ensuring the long-term survival of this remarkable species."These PIT tags will provide valuable insights into age, growth rates, and movement," explained a project biologist.Passive Integrated Transponders (PIT Tags) are tracking tags that do not require power. They have a microchip that is activated when it passes close to a special antenna. The tagged sturgeon will be released into the Illinois River and its tributaries, contributing to the recovery of this endangered species in Illinois and the broader Upper Mississippi River Basin. Late Tuesday, after she overtook Marriott, she had led at one point by just 20 votes, but the margin continued to grow.“It was a very stressful evening — a lot of anxiety and stress,” she said of Tuesday night, noting that she went to bed at 1:45 a.m., only to awaken four hours later to check on the election results again.Simpson held a lead of 50.4% to 49.6% as of early afternoon, with more than 44,000 votes t...People are feeding coyotes at Orange County nature reserve, managers say

Don’t feed the coyotes. What might seem like obvious advice is apparently not being heeded by some visitors and residents living near the Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve in Orange County."We have found evidence of coyotes being fed on the nearby properties or at the edge of the properties, and we've had reports and seen coyotes actually approach humans," said Melissa Borde, an environmental scientist and reserve manager for the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.Flyers have been posted warning visitors of increased "coyote activity" at the popular 1300-acre coastal wetlands area between Huntington Beach and Seal Beach. Video shows coyote attack toddler in broad daylight So far, no attacks have been reported but Borde is concerned that if people don’t change their behavior, it is just a matter of time.“Coyotes should be foraging. They should be hunting. They should have a natural fear of humans” she said. “When the coyote becomes habituated … it can become a human or pet safe...Six Flags Magic Mountain will offer free park admission for Veterans Day, other freebies and discounts

Published Thu, 31 Oct 2024 23:48:23 GMT
Citigroup intentionally discriminated against Armenian Americans when they applied for credit cards, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau said Wednesday. The bureau said some bank employees argued internally that Armenian Americans were more likely to commit fraud and referred to applicants as “bad guys” or as affiliated with organized crime. The CFPB found that Citi employees were trained to avoid approving applications with last names ending in “yan” or "ian" — the most common suffix to Armenian last names — as well applications that originated in Glendale, California, where a significant portion of the country's Armenian-American population lives. As part of the order, Citi will pay $24.5 million in fines as well as $1.4 million in remedies to impacted customers. The origins of the case come as a result of some organized crime syndicates operating in Southern California that involve Armenian Americans. The leaders of the Armenian crime rings have been charged with identity the...Latest news
